Commitment to achieving net zero
Maxiron Ltd is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared in accordance with UK Government Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 006 (formerly PPN 06/21) and the associated Technical Standard for Completion of Carbon Reduction Plans. It is reviewed and republished at least annually.
Organisational boundary
Maxiron Ltd (company number 14444817) is a UK company providing IBM Maximo consulting, managed cloud hosting (MaxIron Cloud), and application support. The organisational boundary for this plan is Maxiron Ltd's UK operations under operational control.
Maxiron Ltd operates from a UK office, does not operate a company vehicle fleet, and delivers services primarily through cloud infrastructure on AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
Cloud infrastructure
Cloud computing accounts for the majority of Maxiron Ltd's operational environmental impact. MaxIron Cloud and related platforms are hosted on hyperscale providers with published renewable-energy and net-zero commitments. Capacity is provisioned to demand, unused capacity is not retained, and utilisation is monitored so that inefficient use can be corrected.
Purchased cloud services fall under Scope 3 Category 1 and sit outside the five Scope 3 categories mandated by PPN 006. They are disclosed voluntarily below.
| Cloud segment | Attribution | 2025 (tCO2e) |
|---|---|---|
| Internal cloud platforms and tooling | Maxiron Ltd (voluntary Scope 3) | 3.5 |
| Customer MaxIron Cloud workloads | Customer (GHG Protocol) | 48.0 |
Customer MaxIron Cloud emissions are attributed to the customer under the GHG Protocol and are not included in Maxiron Ltd's organisational totals. Maxiron Ltd manages those estates with the same efficiency controls described above.
Baseline emissions footprint
Baseline year: 2025
This is Maxiron Ltd's first Carbon Reduction Plan; the baseline year is therefore also the first reporting year. Scope 1 is nil. Scope 2 is purchased electricity for the UK office. Scope 3 covers the mandatory PPN 006 subset; cloud is reported voluntarily in addition.
PPN 006 emissions
| Emissions | Total (tCO2e) |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 | 0.0 |
| Scope 2 | 2.5 |
| Scope 3 (included sources) | 6.6 |
| Total emissions | 9.1 |
Scope 3 (included sources)
| Category | Total (tCO2e) |
|---|---|
| Upstream transportation and distribution | 0.0 |
| Waste generated in operations | 0.1 |
| Business travel | 1.5 |
| Employee commuting | 5.0 |
| Downstream transportation and distribution | 0.0 |
| Total Scope 3 (included) | 6.6 |
Extended total (including voluntary internal cloud)
| Emissions | Total (tCO2e) |
|---|---|
| PPN 006 total | 9.1 |
| Voluntary Scope 3 — internal cloud | 3.5 |
| Extended organisational total | 12.6 |
Customer MaxIron Cloud (48.0 tCO2e) remains customer-attributed and is excluded from Maxiron Ltd totals.
Current emissions reporting
Reporting year: 2025
Current emissions are equal to the baseline: PPN 006 total 9.1 tCO2e; extended total including voluntary internal cloud 12.6 tCO2e.
Emissions reduction targets
- Reduce the PPN 006 total from 9.1 tCO2e (2025) to 7.3 tCO2e by 2030 (20% reduction).
- Reduce voluntary internal cloud emissions from 3.5 tCO2e (2025) to 2.8 tCO2e by 2030 (20% reduction).
- Continue to apply efficiency controls to customer MaxIron Cloud estates so that emissions intensity does not increase beyond the requirements of contracted workload.
Carbon reduction projects
Completed and ongoing
- Preferential use of cloud providers with published renewable-energy and net-zero commitments (AWS, Azure, OCI)
- Cloud capacity managed to demand, with monitoring to identify and remove unused resource
- Efficient use of UK office electricity (Scope 2)
- Preferential use of lower-emission business travel where travel is required; carbon offsetting for unavoidable air travel
- Digital-first documentation and contracting
- Responsible end-of-life treatment of IT equipment in accordance with WEEE requirements
- Environmental criteria considered in significant supplier assessments
Planned
- Improved reporting of cloud-related emissions where provider metering supports it
- Further automation of capacity scheduling for non-production workloads
- Continued improvement of office energy performance and business-travel data quality
- Annual refresh of Scope 3 activity data
Declaration and sign-off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 006 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.
Emissions have been reported in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and UK Government conversion factors. Scope 1 and Scope 2 are reported on a SECR-aligned basis (Maxiron Ltd is below the mandatory SECR threshold and publishes voluntarily). The required Scope 3 subset follows the PPN 006 Technical Standard. Voluntary cloud disclosure does not replace that subset.
This plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
