Situation
A year-round ferry timetable and a fixed support milestone limited the available production cutover windows. IBM Maximo 7.6 ran on ageing infrastructure and SQL Server.
MaxIron responsibility
MaxIron held the upgrade, OpenShift migration, database conversion, inventory design and finance integration, then continued with platform support. The operator approved scope, data definitions and cutover.
MAS upgrade, cloud migration, DB2 conversion, inventory, finance integration and support
Delivery
The team inventoried live customisations, agreed stores definitions, built the Dynamics 365 interface and rehearsed the combined upgrade and conversion with a timed rollback plan.
The operator signed a scope baseline and retire list. Stores and engineering agreed inventory definitions before load mapping. Cutover rehearsals recorded a named owner against every step and a tested rollback point.
Platform and connections
IBM MAS 9.0.1 on Red Hat OpenShift; IBM DB2; Microsoft Dynamics 365; Maximo Mobile
Outcome
MAS 9.0.1 went live in seven months through one planned production outage. IBM DB2, Maximo Mobile and finance integration operate on the new estate, with the delivery architects retained on the account.
Scope and decisions
The first phase carried active reports, Manage, Mobile and the platform. Wider MAS application uptake and process redesign beyond inventory were placed on the improvement roadmap. Duration reflects this estate and its production calendar.
Delivery lessons
Inventory definitions, finance involvement in interface design and crew enablement can start before mobilisation. These decisions reduce late scope discussion and give vessel-side and shore-side supervisors time to adopt the working practices.
Next conversation
Bring the current version, database platform, customisation and interface inventory, operating calendar and licence position to an upgrade scoping conversation.
Evidence basis
This brief summarises the published anonymised engagement. Client-identifying names, sites and records are withheld. Reference discussions are subject to client permission and NDA where required. Published durations and outcomes relate to this estate; another programme requires assessment of its scope and operating constraints.
