Client brief

ISO 14224 data and safety-critical evidence held in Maximo

Oil & gas · United Kingdom (UKCS) · 12 months programme

Situation

Successive mergers left a North Sea operator with divergent classification and failure-coding schemes. Safety-critical performance reporting required quarterly manual assembly while the live safety case stayed in force.

MaxIron responsibility

MaxIron delivered the standards model, master-data remediation, integrations and reliability reporting. The operator’s reliability, HSE, asset-management and governance functions approved definitions and safety-critical requirements.

Standards model, master data, enterprise integration, reliability analytics and retained standards advice

Delivery

The team crosswalked three legacy schemes into ISO 14224 taxonomy, connected API RP 14C performance standards and verification to the asset record, and developed ISO 15926-aligned contractor handover templates.

The standards committee signed hierarchy definitions, reliability approved taxonomy and failure lists, and HSE held performance standards. A data-governance forum and named standards owner maintain controlled change. Deferrals record reason and approver at the decision.

Platform and connections

IBM Maximo on DB2; SAP PM and finance; reliability analytics; linked HSE incidents; contractor handover templates

Outcome

A common standards model was delivered in 12 months and maintained through retained advice. Work history remains interpretable through legacy mappings; reliability and safety-critical reporting use the same Maximo records.

Scope and decisions

The operator agreed how far back full ISO 14224 detail would apply. Earlier history stays interpretable through the maintained crosswalk. The HSE incident system remains its system of record. ISO 15926 handover templates apply to new-build and brownfield projects.

Delivery lessons

Agree the historical boundary before modifying records, pilot failure-mode lists with technicians and appoint the standards owner at mobilisation. Performance standards and verification activities need to remain linked to the safety-critical asset.

Next conversation

Bring the classification schemes, failure-mode list, safety-critical element register, performance standards and contractor handover requirements to a standards assessment.

Evidence basis

This brief summarises the published anonymised engagement. Client-identifying names, sites and records are withheld. Reference discussions are subject to client permission and NDA where required. Published durations and outcomes relate to this estate; another programme requires assessment of its scope and operating constraints.
